Seems Blizzard's announcement about Diablo III has sparked fans to relive the oldies. The Diablo Battle Chest package, which contains Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, hit the #1 spot in PC Game sales in North America -- Surpassing Blizzard's own World of Warcraft.

While Blizzard stated at the Worldwide Invitational event that they were working on Diablo III exclusively for PC and Mac, vice president Rob Pardo also threw in that a console version was "theoretically posssible".

Many aspects of the game would need to be changed in order to function on a console. As Pardo said, "Out of StarCraft, Warcraft or WOW, Diablo would be the easiest game to translate. But it would still take a bit of work."

Now with the original petition having over 35,000 signatures, lead producer Keith Lee has responded as to why Blizzard took this direction.

“One of the things that we considered when we were working on the visuals for ‘Diablo III’ is the fact that color is your friend. We feel that color actually helps to create a lot of highlights in the game so that there is contrast. A great analogy is like in ‘Lord of the Rings’ — not everything is dark. It allows you to see what a creepy dungeon can be like but if everything is dark it doesn’t allow you to have a lot of contrast.”

It didnt take long. Almost immediately after seeing the small amount of released media from Blizzard, fans have already started petitions against the games World-of-Warcraft-like graphics.
